 This is one day shorter than the Mollepata extension described above but perhaps a shade more difficult with a high pass at 4,515 meters on the second day. It also takes you close by a glacial lake (Ancascocha) with great views of glaciated mountains. The foci of this walk are the peaks of Cerro Herpay (5040m), and Cielo Rumiyoc (5345m). The beauty of these longer treks is that you arrive in Machupicchu very well acclimatized. The third day sees you join the Classic Inca Trail at Huayllabamba. From here we have two more days on the trail before entering Machupicchu on day 6.
